Free Food for Life!

Yep – that’s what a garden provides, or at least it’s supposed to anyway. Actually, it provides food, and so much more! After all, if you’re going to have a garden, you want it to look incredible, offer relaxation and calmness, provide comfort and security, and allow you an abundance of food to give to others. There is nothing better than a harvest full of delicious, healthy food that you know exactly where it came from! So, what does it take to have that kind of garden? That’s where Home Farm comes in.

Design: Designing a great garden is our favorite part. Once the design is set, then the magic happens. That magic is a by-product of the homeowners shared vision. We bring the expertise, but we need to hear from you first.  When you look out your window, what do you want to see? What do you wish your yard would look like? We want to bring to life the backyard oasis you have always wanted, and bring your vision to reality, but also going beyond that – to create your own Home Farm!

Soil: The basis of any garden is the soil. Let me tell you, great soil does not come in a bag – it cannot be bought! You have to make it, or in this case, we help you make it. It’s the “secret sauce” of the garden. Everything that abounds in a garden is a product of great soil. So, we bring in a mixture of locally sourced organic soil – then we add our secret sauce – which isn’t so secret. Well, maybe the proportions are. Essentially, when starting from scratch, we add worm castings, organic fertilizers like kelp meal, bone meal and chicken manure, among other things (all natural, of course). Once the soil is ready, planting seeds and transplants is the easy part!

Plants: Choosing what goes in the garden is also a lot of fun. You might be surprised at how much we can grow in our climate – and what will overwinter to surprise you next spring! We can help you select a variety of annuals and perennials for your garden – a nice mix of perennials will ease the planting workload year after year. Did you know that oregano is a perennial in our climate, and that there are varieties of kale, lettuce and parsley that will come back each season from dropped seeds?

Knowledge: One of the other great benefits of gardens is how much you learn. The learning never stops – no matter how many years you have been a gardener. Gardens produce this amazing connection to the natural world right in your backyard, that you never knew existed…or perhaps you just forgot. Let us remind you!

Work: If I had a dollar for every person that said “I don’t have time for a garden…too much work”, I’d be quite wealthy. If that person is you, well then, we’re a perfect match! We literally formed this business just for you! We will do it all, and you can reap all the benefits. We sow, you reap – we upkeep, you eat! What beats having an amazing garden oasis in your backyard that you never have to weed, prune, trim, fertilize, spray, de-bug, and so on, and come home from work to find a basket of freshly-picked fruits, veggies and herbs waiting for you? We can also suggest some ways in which to use those delicious foods, or preserve them.

Share: One of our favorite aspects of having a great home garden, is giving. When you have a great harvest, the best thing to do is share it! Share it with neighbors, friends and family, or local food pantries. Our gardens will give you so much; you will have a lot to be grateful for, and so will those with whom you share your bounty.  Start your dream garden today!
